Three questions to answer first
When will you need the bag again? Will you finish the day near the place you leave it? What do you need to keep with you? Those answers are more useful than starting with a list of storage providers.
For example, if your hotel is close to the end of your planned day, ask whether it can hold your bag before check-in. If you will leave Kyoto later the same day, storage near your departure point may be a better fit. These are planning suggestions; availability needs to be confirmed with the provider.
Compare the trade-offs
Hotel storage keeps the handover simple if the hotel confirms it is available. The trade-off is the journey to the property before you start exploring. Never assume that an unstaffed accommodation can receive a bag.
A locker or staffed storage location can work when you will return to the same area. Check opening hours, size limits, payment methods and the latest collection time. Do not build the day around finding an empty locker of a particular size.
Delivery can remove the return journey to a storage point. Confirm that the destination accepts deliveries, the arrival date or time window, and the service’s exclusions. Keep essentials with you if the delivery is not guaranteed before you need them.

Keep a small day bag
Before handing over the suitcase, separate anything you need for the day: travel documents, medication, valuables, a charger and weather-appropriate layers. Follow the storage or delivery provider’s rules about what it will accept.
Photograph the collection receipt for your own reference and keep the original as instructed. Set a reminder comfortably before the collection deadline. A cheaper storage point is poor value if retrieving the bag forces an expensive detour.
Choose transport around your destination
Kyoto’s official guidance recommends using rail and subway routes close to your destination. Its luggage guidance also asks visitors to avoid bringing large suitcases onto crowded public transport when possible. Planning storage first helps make that practical.
Compare the remaining walk as well as the train journey. For anyone who needs step-free access, check the specific station exits and venue access directly. A short rail route alone does not establish that a journey is accessible.

A useful fallback
If your preferred storage option is unavailable, simplify the outing rather than carrying the suitcase through a packed itinerary. Have a meal near the station or travel to your accommodation and wait for check-in. Leaving space in the plan makes a small problem easier to absorb.
